Multi-million pound tennis boost

GRAVES Tennis Centre in Norton is set to be transformed into one of the best sports complexes in the north of England under a multi-million pound deal to be approved next week.

Under the 18 million plans the tennis complex will become a flagship centre of excellence with state-of-the-art facilities capable of staging major tournaments with top class indoor and outdoor courts.

A new swimming pool will also be built to replace the one 150 yards away on a separate site.

Council bosses are hoping the improved venue will attract tennis players "of an international calibre" and help to produce "a future Roger Federer".

Most of the cash will be invested by a company called Win Tennis, which also runs the tennis academy at Sport England's Bisham Abbey complex.
