Prosecutor takes over

A NEW Chief Crown Pros-ecutor has taken over in South Yorkshire to replace Judith Walker, who has taken up a new post in Nottinghamshire.

Nigel Cowgill, who was previously Chief Crown Prosecutor in Humberside, began his new role on Monday.

He said: “I will be working closely with all our criminal justice system partners in order to ensure that the CJS continues to bring more offenders to justice and that the people living here continue to feel safe.”

In 2006, under Mr Cowgill’s leadership, Humberside Crown Prosecution Service was assessed as excellent by the CPS Inspectorate - one of only three in the country, including South Yorkshire, to achieve such a high rating.
