Residents' praise for new access to homes

NEW traffic signals at the junction of Donetsk Way and Moorthorpe Way in Hackenthorpe have speeded up traffic, say council bosses.

The new junction has been put in after requests from local motorists and residents to improve access to the Leabrook Estate and Owlthorpe area for cars.

Previously there was only pedestrian access to the area, with a public footpath crossing the site of the new junction.

Vehicles used to access the area via the roundabout at Donetsk Way and Moss Way, which council chiefs say often led to longer journeys. Now motorists can make a left or right turn across the tram tracks at the traffic lights.

Coun Bryan Lodge, cabinet member for transport and streetscene at Sheffield Council said: "I am so pleased that the new junction has been implemented.

"Local residents requested better access and we have been able to deliver a solution that works for everyone. Not only will access be significantly improved, but there should be a positive impact on journey times for motorists."

Samantha Forde, from the Leabrook Estate, said: "We've already seen a real improvement in journey times when we take the car; myself and other local residents are so pleased. I know it was difficult for them to get it put in, what with the tram tracks being on Donetsk Way, but it has improved things for us so much."

Sara Cullen, also a local resident, added: "What a difference it makes – we have already noticed a vast difference."
