School's pool makes a splash

PUPILS, staff and parents all had a splashing time when they celebrated the official opening of a swimming and hydrotherapy pool at a Derbyshire special school.

Ashgate Croft School in Chesterfield launched a fundraising appeal in 2002 to build the 1 million pool for children and adults with disabilities.

The Pool for Megan and Her Friends' Appeal was launched by the parents of Megan Carver, a 10-year-old pupil at the school.

The school's total of almost 500,000 was boosted with 450,000 from Derbyshire County Council to make sure the project went ahead.

Headteacher Mike Meaton said: "We're delighted the pupils and the community can now enjoy this wonderful pool."
