Sixth soldier killed in week

A BRITISH soldier killed when his patrol base came under fire in southern Afghanistan will be named by the Ministry of Defence today.

The serviceman, from from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, died after the base, in the volatile Helmand Province, was attacked by small arms fire, and rocket propelled grenades.

Five other soldiers received minor injuries in the attack. The soldier’s death comes at the end of a devastating week for British forces.

He is the second soldier to be killed in as many days in Afghanistan, and four soldiers have been killed in Iraq since Monday.
