Sun finally shines to give Handsworth folk their fun

A BIT of bad weather wasn't going to stop the people of Handsworth from having some fun for ever.

For the sun eventually shone all day for yesterday’s celebrations at St Mary’s Church, Handsworth - after bad weather forced organisers to postpone the original fun day.

The annual Handsworth Fun Day was originally arranged for July but weeks of wet weather forced Handsworth Forum to cancel the event.

But organisers were determined to go ahead with a community event so they scaled their plans down and held the fun day yesterday instead.

Families were invited to the church on Handsworth Road between 12pm and 4pm where they could enjoy trade stalls and refreshments, family attractions and activities including face painting, a bouncy castle and dancing displays.

Maurice Littlewood, chairman of Handsworth Forum, said: “Handsworth Forum is dedicated to serving this community so we were not going to let this summer’s terrible weather spoil all of our fun.”
