Take a pew ... literally

TAKE a pew! St Tim's Church in Crookes is asking people to do just that - as they move out the seating ready for a massive refurbishment programme which begins on Monday.

The 100-year-old pews will be replaced with new comfortable seats, and people are being invited to buy one as a souvenir of the old church.

New crche facilities, a kitchen, disabled access and toilets will be provided as part of the 350,000 project, along with the installation of audio-visual equipment, new meeting rooms and a revamped entrance lobby.

Andrew Chapman, from the church, said: "It's taken three years and a lot of prayer - and a lot of giving - for the 100-strong congregation to raise the target. But it's also been a lot of fun too!"

Anyone interested in purchasing one of the few remaining pews should contact Vicar Phil Townsend on 0114 2661745. The pews cost between 30 and 100.
