Sheffield charity urges public to donate money they 'may have spent elsewhere before lockdown'

With haircuts, commutes, pub trips, and eating out all on the back burner whilst people stay at home to save lives, Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care has asked people to consider donating the money they’ve saved to aid its vital work.

The charity is still delivering its core services, which include helping older people to get back home once they’ve been discharged from hospital and delivering food parcels to those who are isolating.

But with demand soaring, the charity says it needs help if it’s able to continue to help people in our communities struggling with the effects of coronavirus.

Mark Storey, chief executive at SCCCC, said: “Being locked down is affecting people in a multitude of ways- including extra financial worries for many.

“However, if people still have the means to donate, we would be extremely grateful.

“Even a bit of loose change lost down the back of the sofa or in an old handbag will help us to continue our work to the absolute best of our ability.”

SCCCC has already helped almost 200 older people in the city, since distancing measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic kicked in four weeks ago.

With the government advising the lockdown will go on until at least May, the charity says donations are vital if it is to continue its work.

Along with cash donations, SCCCC is calling out for other urgent Covid-19 related donations via Amazon.

The wish list includes personal protective equipment, to keep its staff and service users safe, and other simple low cost items like single duvets, pillows and bedding.
