Youngsters to get tips on building site safety

Sheffield Homes’ contractor Connaught, which is carrying out improvements to properties at Winn Gardens, Middlewood, is holding the summer safety day on Monday at The Pavillion, Winn Grove, 10am-2pm It is open to all youngsters living on the estate but they must be accompanied by an adult.

Children will be given a presentation by Connaught’s safety and environment officer Stephen Dale about the dangers of climbing scaffolding and playing near building sites.

Boys and girls will then be invited to enter a “design a builder” competition to demonstrate what they had learned about the safety wear required at all times on a working site.

Up to 100 children will also be issued with high visibility vests they can wear on their return to school to ensure they stay safe as the nights draw in.
