Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, based in North Anston, is a rescue centre and a registered charity that works tirelessly to care for a number of animals, from tiny hamsters to great big horses.
Much of the volunteers’ workload is taken up by caring for the dozens of dogs that come through the gates of the shelter. Some may have been found as strays, others have suffered neglect, while others have been given up due to an unfortunate change in circumstances - but one thing they all have in common is that they need a loving home.
Thornberry spends much of its money on the care of its animals, and is always grateful for donations to help manage the costs. Visit their website to find out how you can donate to the charity.
5. Whiskey, a three year old Patterdale x Bull Terrier
Whiskey is a complicated little lady who needs support to help her re-adjust. She needs an adult-only home with experienced dog owners that can help her build her confidence with people and dogs. She needs a quiet environment with no other pets and a secure garden. A rural setting is ideal. Whiskey struggles to be alone, so it is essential that Whiskey has no leaving hours initially, as they must be built up very slowly with realistic expectations. She is a fantastic little project dog with so much potential. She loves to play with the ball and will happily do this for hours. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
Taco is an extremely handsome chap. He has arrived as part of a large group of dogs and is a social boy – he can be protective of his food so this would need to be managed if sharing his home with new friends. He would prefer walking areas away from roads initially just as he can be nervous around traffic. With a little TLC, Taco will make a great companion. Taco is currently on medical hold, and applications will reviewed in the week commencing 6/11.
Adorable Tilly is a very sweet little lady who has been a little shy since arriving here as she is used to being a pampered pooch. She is best suited to a home with a quieter environment with no young children. Tilly has not been socialised with dogs very much so is looking to be the only pet in the home. She will require a secure private garden for pottering around
Drac is a male crossbreed puppy, potentially lurcher / bull breeds but it is not known what the dad was. Drac is a sweet, young boy who will need all basic training. He has waved goodbye to his mum and brother, and is now ready to start his new life with his new forever family. Drac could live with another neutered, vaccinated dog(s) that will enjoy the company of a boisterous pup.
