Sheffield Wednesday are still in talks with exciting young attacker, Joey Phuthi, about extending his stay with the Owls.

Phuthi, who turned 18 earlier this year, was offered his first professional contract at the club earlier in the summer, and The Star understands that negotiations are ongoing between the involved parties as they near a conclusion.

It’s thought that the talented teen, who shone on numerous occasions in the FA Youth Cup last season, is eager to extend his spell at S6, and the fact that new manager, Xisco Munoz, has had him up with the senior team following his arrival will no doubt have given him a huge boost.

The youngster has been with the Owls since he was 13, climbing his way up the ranks, but stepped into the spotlight last season with a several impressive displays for both the U18s and U21s after stepping up a level.

Phuthi will be hoping to get things wrapped up as soon as possible so that he can give himself the best chance of making a mark in preseason with the Owls, and possibly even get on the plane to Spain for the club’s warm weather camp.

He wasn’t the only young player on show in Munoz’s first session at Middlewood Road, with Sean Fusire, Adam Alimi-Adetoro, Favour Onukwuli, Pierce Charles and potential signing, Sam Reed, all playing their part.

The Owls face York City at 1.30pm this weekend, and there’s a chance the young attacker could get an opportunity to show fans what he’s capable of.
