Reports have suggested that the EFL Highlights show is to be shaken up for the 2023/24 campaign, which will see a move towards more action and less punditry.

The Mirror report that regular studio analysts like Sam Parkin and Dean Ashton are to be axed, with the programme taking place on location at an EFL ground. Presenting duties, which had been shared between Hugh Woozencroft and Jules Breach, will continue with the pair introducing a much-sharper round-up of the Championship and Leagues One and Two.

Various broadcasters have struggled with the format of showing EFL highlights over the years, with the sheer number of games making the programme a weekly drawn-out affair, particularly for fans of clubs lower down the divisions.

ITV have reportedly now taken steps to shorten the length of the show, though at this stage it is not known at what time the programme with be broadcast, however it is unlikely to go head-to-head with the BBC’s Premier League highlights on Match of the Day.

This is the final year of ITV’s deal with the EFL having take on a two-year contract following the previous broadcaster, Quest, which was hosted by Colin Murray.
