Sheffield Wednesday line-up Premier League opposition for final preseason friendly at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday will face Luton Town in their final preseason friendly, with the Premier League club making the trip to Hillsborough later this month.

The Owls now have a whole host of games lined up this summer as they prepare for the Championship season ahead, starting with this weekend’s York City venture and ending with the Hatters’ visit on July 29th.

Inbetween they will take on Chesterfield, Real Murcia, CD Eldense and Doncaster Rovers, with the two games abroad taking place at Pinatar Arena in Spain as part of their warm weather camp that was announced previously.

A statement from the club read, “Sheffield Wednesday will host Luton Town in a pre-season friendly this month. The game will take place at Hillsborough on Saturday 29 July, with a 3:00pm kick-off.

“It will be the Owls’ final pre-season fixture ahead of our 2023/24 Championship campaign, which begins at home to Southampton on Friday 4 August.”

Wednesday have only 17 players aged 23 or above contracted for the campaign ahead as new manager, Xisco Munoz, looks at bringing in a host of new faces, however it is hoped that the squad will have bulked out by the time Rob Edwards’ side come to town later this month.

The Owls face York tomorrow at 1.30pm before heading out to Spain next weekend.
